Mass spectrometer Q-Tof Premier

Mass spectrometer Q-Tof Premier belongs to the generation of high-performance spectrometers for research and analytical work with organic compounds and biomolecules, i.e. molecules with masses several hundred Dalton (Da) to macromolecules with masses up to tens of kDa, such as biopolymers, for example. polysaccharides, peptides, proteins and DNA and RNA molecules.
Q-Tof Premier of producer: Waters-Micromass, Manchester, United Kingdom is the quadrupole, orthogonal accelerated tandem mass spectrometer with time of flight mass analyzer (Tof). The spectrometer is equipped with an ion sources at atmospheric pressure API and MALDI, liquid chromatographs UPLC and nanoUPLC. Selection of an appropriate ion source in the Q-Tof Premier allows the use different methods of ionization:
  • Ionization by spraying the solutions in the electric field - ESI (electrospray ionization)
  • Chemical ionization at atmospheric pressure - APCI (atmospheric pressure chemical ionization)
  • Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI)
  • nano electrospray ionization (nanoESI)
API ion sources can be used in conjunction with ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) or nano UPLC, where are the flows of mobile phase through the UPLC chromatographic column only a few nL. Coupling of liquid chromatograph and mass spectrometer (LC-MS) allow qualitative and quantitative analysis of compounds in various materials that can be very complex compound (e.g. biological samples) where are the compounds present in traces (picograms or atomols).

Mass spectrometer is distinguished by the accurate mass measurements at high mass resolution, increased dynamic range, high sensitivity measurement of low concentration of compounds in the sample and high speed scanning of mass spectra.
Basic information that is collected from the mass spectrum is molecular mass of organic compounds. Q-Tof Premier mass spectrometer works at a high mass resolution (m / Δm> 10,000) which allow measurement of the exact mass of ions in the mass spectrum, product ions in MS / MS spectrum, reactant ions or neutral molecules, which are separated from a particular ion.
Accurate mass measurements of ions are carried out with specific dual API ion source with LockSpray where we introduce the reference compound with known molecular weight. Based on the accurately mass measurement of the ion we can determine the elemental composition of particular compounds, which allows the determination of the structure and identification of unknown compounds in the sample.
