Group for Modelling, Risk Assessment and Environmental Impact Assessment
Head: Professor Branko Kontić
Working Areas
Environmental Impact Assessment Group works on the following three main areas: environmental modelling, risk assessment, environmental impact assessment. In the framework of environmental modelling the foci are spatial analysis and simulations with GIS tools, and mass-balance modelling of transport and accumulation of substances in different environmental media. Risk assessment covers incidents and accidents in process industry. Research in EIA is oriented towards clarification of validity of formal impact assessments needed at different stages of legal procedures and other decision-making situations. The later is linked with concepts and forms of combining scientific evidence with societal and economic valuation (strategic decision-making, externalities, spatial development).
Concrete research areas
Association between accidental risk assessment for industries and spatial planning
Uncertainties in environmental modelling and risk assessment
Valuation and inclusion of scientific evidence into EIA
Long-term environmental assessments
Strategic environmental assessments
Mass-balance oriented exposure evaluation in the framework of epidemiological studies
